Yas, the Individuals took the lead!

This past Saturday saw our first Individual Member Throwdown which took place in The Arena. We absolutely love to create such events focused on fitness and fun and we truly hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Events such as this are the perfect opportunity to see how you are all progressing and to show you that hard work pays off!
Our Head Coaches Elliot and Antony put on a great spread for you designing workouts to test you and push your physical and mental boundaries. The entire event ran seamlessly with awesome tunes all afternoon from our DJ.

Head Coaches Elliot & Antony on organising the Throwdown:
“We have done many Team Throwdowns previously and people have loved them, but we knew from classes that people were ready for this next challenge. We wanted to see if the members were ready to bite the bullet, as it is scary to compete as an individual. One month before the Open it was perfect time to see where everybody’s fitness is standing.”

Females. Lifting Weights . Feeling Good

When researching 'female weightlifting' on the Internet you will come across thousands of misinformed and somewhat deluded articles regarding the subject. We will tell you first hand that 'lifting weights will NOT make you bulky'. If you don’t believe us, then have a read of Coach Silji’s recent post and it may just convince you that looking and feeling better wont happen on a treadmill.
Silje Emilie Tonnesen recently joined the team here at Vogue Fitness from Norway. Silji is a hugely experienced coach and also a gifted athlete who is hoping for a big year of competition. This strong lady knows what she is talking about when it comes to training so we suggest you take note of her thoughts.

“I don’t want to get too bulky”
“I don’t want to have big muscles!”
“I want to loose weight and get slim, long muscles”
“I want a thin waist and smaller hips.”
“I don’t want to look big”
Do any of these phrases sound familiar to you?
This is generally what I hear on a daily basis, and I am here to tell you that - if some of the above is something that you could have stated - you should still not stay away from weights! It’s quite the contrary.
I have worked with lot's of girls who wants to loose weight, and their usual impression of a workout routine is that it has to consist of hours of cardio, and only cardio. And that is where most are mistaken!
Not that long ago, I used to be under the same impression, and I have been through setbacks, tries and failures in so many aspects of training over the years. It was not until I found CrossFit and weightlifting that I put aside aside my body image and started focusing on my bodies capabilities. It was at this point that I became comfortable in my own skin, and started to appreciate my body.
If you want to burn fat faster and you want to shape your body, you should be training with heavier weights, and setting strength performance goals. This will make your training more measurable, and most importantly - a lot more fun!
Imagine all of the movements you are able to do with your body, and the feeling of mastering a weight that you never even thought you could pick up off the floor. These things are what we strive for, the feeling of confidence and self-esteem. Feeling powerful and strong, and also to be fitter and happier in the process.
From the bottom of my heart, I truly hope that more of you girls can start to cherish your bodies. To take better care of it with the right tools to get into better shape, and basically aim to feel stronger and more energetic in your everyday lives. I believe that picking up those weights will get you one step closer to achieving your goal.
